“The beauty of the heart of Christ.”

Let’s prepare our hearts and minds for the Sunday, August 15 worship service and the sermon by reviewing the bible readings, confession, and reflection.

Bible Reading 1: Psalm 27:4-6 (ESV)

4 One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire[a] in his temple.

5 For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.

6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord.

Confession/Creed: Sermon quote by Jonathan Edwards

Dane Ortlund quotes from a sermon by Jonathan Edwards:

When sinners and sufferers come to Christ, Jonathan Edwards says in a sermon, "the Person that they find is exceeding excellent and lovely." For they come to the One who is not only "of excellent majesty and of perfect purity and brightness," but also the one in whom this majesty is "conjoined with the sweetest grace, one that clothes himself with mildness and meekness and love." Jesus is "exceedingly ready to receive them."

Bible Reading 2: Matthew 10:37-39 (ESV)

Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
