Are You Ready for Surgery?

Let’s prepare our hearts and minds for Sunday, November 21, 9:30 AM In-person, 11:00 AM In-person/Livestream Worship Service, and the sermon by reviewing the bible readings, confession, and reflection.

Bible Reading 1: 1 Peter 1:22-25 (ESV)

22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; 24 for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you.

Confession/Creed: Apostles’ Creed - Larger Catechism Q. 4

Q. 4. How do we know that the Scriptures are of the Word of God?

A. The Scriptures manifest themselves to be the Word of God by their majesty and purity, by the coherence of all their parts and the consistent message of the whole, which is to give all glory to God, and by their light and power to convince and convert sinners and to comfort and build up believers to salvation. But only the Spirit of God, bearing witness by and with the Scriptures in the heart of a person, is able to fully persuade a heart that the Scriptures are the true Word of God.

Bible Reading 2: Hebrews 4:12-13 (ESV)

12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
